Wisconsin lawmakers rebuff governor’s health-related marijuana program

The Wisconsin Legislature’s joint finance committee on Thursday voted 11-four along celebration lines to reject Gov. Tony Evers’ price range proposal to legalize health-related marijuana.

All the committee’s Republicans voted to scrap the item, Wisconsin Public Radio reported.

In his price range program, Evers, a Democrat, had suggested establishing a health-related marijuana plan that would have incorporated a 10% tax surcharge on retail MMJ sales in addition to the state’s typical sales tax.

The legislative committee also rejected the governor’s program to decriminalize the possession of tiny amounts of marijuana for individual use.
