The advantages of daily CBD Supplementation
As you may know, CBD interacts with your body’s cellular cannabinoid receptors, which are part of your Endocannabinoid System, or ECS. The ECS is relatively newly-discovered, having been studied closely only for the last 25 years. Your body naturally produces cannabinoids, called endocannabinoids. When they come into contact with endocannabinoid receptors in your brain, nervous and immune systems, they participate in modulating a host of functions associated with the body’s balanced, or homeostatic, state – such as digestion, sleep cycles, inflammation and many more.
Cannabinoid receptors are found throughout the brain and body and are among the most numerous G-protein neuro-receptors in the human brain. Research suggests these receptors and the cannabinoids to which they have evolved to react have been in existence in biological life for more than 150 million years, longer than many of the body’s other homeostatic regulatory apparatus.
What are Endocannabinoids?
There are two known types:
- Anandamide usually binds with CB1 receptors, found mainly in the brain and nervous tissues.
- 2-AG (2-arachidonoylglycerol) binds with CB1 and CB2 receptors. CB2 receptors are associated mainly with the immune system.
Other compounds that are being researched as possible endocannabinoids include:
- O-arachidonoylethanolamine (virodhamine)
- N-arachidonoyl dopamine
- N-oleoyl dopamine
Your body has evolved endocannabinoid receptors to naturally use endocannabinoids to regulate daily functions. Endocannabinoids, however, break down quickly, and just as with vitamins and minerals, you can develop an endocannabinoid deficiency, known as CED (Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency). Improper diet, injury, disease and stress are among the factors being examined as possible causes of CED.
CBDs are not only associated with helping the symptoms of conditions such as anxiety, pain and depression, but endocannabinoid deficiency is now being studied as a contributing factor in the development of some of these conditions.
What Happens When ECS is out of Balance
Homeostasis is the condition in which all bodily systems are running smoothly and seamlessly. Respiration, digestion, sleep cycles, etc. monitor and complement each other.
Endocannabinoids have been identified as the ‘messengers’ that communicate the state of your systems to each other – allowing this critical self-monitoring and self-adjusting system to work smoothly beneath your conscious awareness.
When you are in an insufficient endocannabinoid state, this vital inter-system communications process can become inefficient and result in a number of symptoms in your:
- Digestive processes
- Sleep patterns
- Immune response
- Pain regulation
In addition, endocannabinoids seem to play an important role in protecting neurons, the critical brain cells that receive and transmit information and which are responsible for basic functions such as proper metabolism. Many conditions that occur in the brain may be also be linked to CED.
The Benefits of CBD on the Endocannabinoid System
CBD (cannabidiol) is an exocannabinoid, meaning one that is external to the body, which mimics the endocannabinoids your body produces naturally. As such, CBD can help you regain and maintain homeostatic balance. They are also shown to inhibit the reuptake, breakdown, and deactivation of endocannabinoids. The presence of exocannabinoids therefore increases the number of endocannabinoids in your brain’s synapses, helping your entire system run smoothly and easing the symptoms of endocannabinoid deficiency.
The ECS is the focus of ongoing studies and assessments as evidence grows that CBD can make the system more effective and can help reduce symptoms.
CBD and Overall Wellness
A Yale University study is examining whether CBD has long-term cognitive effects in healthy people. Running through 2019, the study will produce new data on how cannabidiol changes mental functioning.
Our products only contain organically grown, pesticide-free and fungicide-free CBD derived from legal hemp plants, a species of cannabis. This means our products are available over-the-counter with no prescription needed. Nevertheless, the New York marijuana study shows that CBD benefits have become sufficiently scientifically accepted that the state may consider legalizing additional varieties of cannabis.
The growing evidence of its healthful benefits makes now an excellent time to consider adding CBD to your health routine!.
